I'm so thrilled to say that after nine straight years of exhibiting at Brickworld Chicago, and eight 'Best Small Building' nominations, I FINALLY won for Notre-Dame de Paris! I'm a little beyond words right now for also receiving the 'Judges Award' for the first time for Mount Rushmore! Completely blown away and so profoundly grateful for everyone's support along the way on this crazy journey!
As someone with a background in architecture and, shall we say, a certain fondness for replicating world landmarks in LEGO, last month's fire at Notre-Dame left me feeling gutted. That same day, I realized how much I take the world's vast architectural heritage for granted. The day after, I began feverishly designing a model of Notre-Dame so that those who I'm fortunate enough to share it with at exhibitions can learn about its precedence alongside other world landmarks. And from now on, ten percent of all my signed print sales at exhibitions will be donated to The Getty Foundation; a charitable organization that works to preserve and restore architectural heritage in every corner of the world.
I would highly encourage you to view all the photos and read the detailed model walkthroughs on my Flickr page: This model will be making its public debut this weekend at BrickUniverse in Columbus, Ohio!
This model is my second in collaboration with Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and will be exhibited at the Danish Architecture Center this June among several other LEGO BIG buildings! It will join my model of Two World Trade Center as part of the BIG Formgiving exhibition, which runs through October.
SURPRISE - I'm in Copenhagen for LEGO World! Normally, I would have brought about sixty models with me, but I settled instead for the chance to sign sixty of the CPH Skyline set I designed, for sixty very deserving exhibitors of the Fan Zone. A huge thank-you to Jan Smed and Line Ann La Cour for making this Fan Zone surprise possible!
From one Harry Potter set at the age of six, to the Masterpiece Gallery of the LEGO House in Billund; I'd say my heart and soul are in the art I make and exhibit, but I think they're more so with the people I've met and the unimaginable opportunities that have come as a result!️
My layout of Chicago's Magnificent Mile will be on display in the Masterpiece Gallery of the LEGO House in Billund, Denmark for the next year!
